Edge of Chaos
Optimal mind is the crossing point.
Four properties only criticality has
A system at the boundary of order and disorder exhibits, simultaneously: maximum information transmission across scales; maximum sensitivity to inputs; maximum computational complexity; maximum long-range correlations. Those are also the marks of optimal conscious experience. Ordered or disordered phases cannot host all four.
Cortex already sits near the edge
Neuronal avalanche distributions in cortex show power-law statistics — the signature of criticality — across spatial and temporal scales. Anesthesia pushes sub-critical. Seizures push super-critical. Optimal function is at the critical point. Under Edge Theory this is not coincidence. The brain at its best is instantiating the α-Connection. Criticality is the edge.
A falsifiable tightening
The prediction is stronger than 'near criticality': the system should hover near α* = π/60, in the universality class defined by six-fold symmetry and maximal holographic fidelity. Specific exponents, specific scaling, a specific α at the fixed point. In principle falsifiable. Not yet tested. The thesis is incomplete here on purpose — this is where measurement has to arrive.
